Effect of partial splenic embolism with sodiunl alginate on 156 cases of hypersplenism

2012
Objective To evaluate the efficacy and complications of partial splenic embolization(PSE) with KMC for patients with liver cancer and hypersplenism. Methods One hundred and fifty-six patients with hypersplenism and cirrhosis were treated by PSE with KMC,the average embolism area was above 65% of the spleen; peripheral white blood cells counts (white blood cell,WBC),platelet (PLT) and red blood cell (RBC) and the complications of PSE were observed. Results Then the clinical reactions and results of patients were observed in all the cases from 1-2weeks to 9 months follow-up,the hypersplenism symptoms of all patients were alleviated in different degrees.Meanwhile, the peripheral hemogram was effectively ameliorated. Conclusions KMC may be used as the embolic material of PSE with embolization degree ranging from 50%-70%,which may alleviate hypersplenism in patients with liver cancer, and also decrease the incidence of post - embolization complications. Key words: Hypersplenism; Partial spleen embolization; Sodium algina
