Colo- and Anorectal Fistulae in Oncological Diseases

Introduction: Locally advanced tumors of the rectum and the colon could infiltrate adjacent tissues and organs and form fistulae with them. Fistulae as complication of radiotherapy in treated tumor of reproductive system, prostate, rectum and anus are not rare in oncology.Materials and Methods: During the period 2010-2015 in the clinic for general and abdominal surgery, 68 patients with fistulae were treated. Men were 31 (45.6%), and women - 37(54.4%). The mean age was 50 years (21-76). In men it was 52 (34-70), and in women it was 48 (21-76).Discussion: Colo-vesical, recto-vesical and recto-vaginal fistulae are most frequently a presentation of inborn anomalies, traumatic incidents or another disease such as diverticulitis, Crohn`s disease (67%) or a tumor process of the cervix, prostate, bladder, colon and rectum(24%). In conclusion, we accept that the presence of a fistula is an indication for a full array of diagnostic procedures for ruling out an oncological disease. If such is found, the patient should be treated fully according to the oncological principles.
