Effect of graphite and molybdenum disulfide on AA 2024 reinforced with slag and calcium carbonate hybrid metal matrix composites

2019
Abstract The present study deals with the investigation of different properties of AA 2024 in the presence of solid lubricants. Two-step Stir casting method was used to fabricate composites. Microstructure of the composites was studied with optical microscopy. It was found that the density of the AA2024-slag-molybdenum disulfide is 2.725 g/cm3, tensile strength 297 N/mm2 and hardness is 297 BHN. Pin-on-disc machine was used to assess the wear resistance and co-efficient of friction for the samples. Wear rate and the coefficient of friction of the composites found decreased at higher loads. AA 2024-slag-molybdenum disulfide shows enhanced outcome than other composites.
