A retrospective analysis on 96 primary gallbladder carcinoma cases

2008
Objective To evaluate the operative modality, pathological grade and tumor differentiation of patients with primary carcinoma of the gallbladder in their relations with prognosis. Methods The clinical and follow-up data of 96 consecutive patients with primary carcinoma of the gallbladder were retrospectively analyzed. Results Seventy-seven cases were followed-up.Patients treated by R0 resection had a 3 year survival rate of 80%,while it was only 20%for R1 resection group.Patients with R2 resection had an average survival of 5.2 months,96%patients that treated conservatively died within the first 6 month with a mean survival time of 2.5 months. Conclusions The postoperative prognosis is mainly determined by the pathological stage of the tumor and the surgical margins.Early diagnosis and R0 resection are essential for a long survival time for patients with gallbladder carcinoma.
