A multi-centre evaluation of 566 cases of ameloblastoma in Nigeria by the African Oral Pathology Research Consortium

2019
Background Ameloblastoma is a locally aggressive odontogenic tumour (OT) that arises from odontogenic epithelium without neoplastic involvement of odontogenic ectomesenchyme. It is the commonest OT in developing countries, especially in Africa, and, hence, a clinically significant lesion among Africans. It has been suggested that the biologic behaviour of ameloblastoma in black Africans is different from the other populations. The high incidence of ameloblastoma in Africans warrants further evidence-based research.
