Development of sutureless magnetic bilioenteric anastomosis stents and its primary application in repairing acute bile duct injury in dogs

2007
AIM:To develop a new appliance for bilioenteric anastomosis for one-stage reconstruction of bilioenteric continuity under the circumstances of severe inflammation after acute bile duct injury.METHODS:Magnet was cut into the designed shape by an electric spark line cutter, covered with titanium and provided with magnetism to prepare the magnetic bilioenteric anastomosis stents. The magnetic field strength and attraction were measured. The magnetic bilioenteric anastomosis stents were used for one-stage reconstruction of the bilioenteric continuity in dogs under the circumstances of severe inflammation after acute bile duct injury.RESULTS:The magnetic field intensity of the stents was below the safety margin for body. The largest magnetic attraction of the specifications of ∮7,∮6,∮5 were 6.4,3.5,3.4 N respectively. With increasing distance, attraction reduced rapidly. The anastomosis was formed completely at post-operation 14 d approximately. There was no anastomotic leakage and observable infection.CONCLUSION:The anastomosis stents could be used for one-stage repair of the bilioenteric continuity under the circumstances of severe bile duct inflammation. It is worth further research.
