Multidisciplinary study on reducing air pollution from transport-methodology and emission results

2001
Within the national program "Sustainable Mobility", measures are evaluated on their efficiency in reducing CO2 ozone precursors (NOx and VOC) and ozone concentrations. Their techno-economic and social feasibility and their subsidiarity are also evaluated. This paper discusses how a methodology for multidisciplinary studies has been set up and how tools have been chosen. Besides a description of the methodology, the first results concerning the effectiveness of reducing CO2, NOx, and VOC are discussed. CO2 emissions are expected to increase steadily from 1990 through 2012. Reducing passenger cars through more public transport and reducing freight road traffic through rail transport or inland shipping seem to be appropriate options.
