Home Versus Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring

2020
Office blood pressure (BP) measurement has been shown to be an unreliable indicator of true BP and although it remains the commonest method of measurement, recent guidelines recommend its use for screening only with diagnostic and management decisions being made with out-of-office measurement techniques, either using 24-h ambulatory BP measurement (ABPM) or home BP measurement (HBPM). The purpose of this brief review is to highlight the benefits each technique can bring to the diagnosis and management of patients with hypertension.
