A survey on knowledge and behavior change regarding cosmetics

Background: Many students have interests in their appearance and express a strong concern about their usage of cosmetics. However, few studies have reported about cosmetic usage in the teenager and their parents visiting dermatology clinics. Recently, there was a report about consumer knowledge and behavior regarding cosmetic in Koreans, so we attempt to assess that to our clinics. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to assess knowledge and behavior regarding cosmetics in teenage and their parents. Methods: We survey a questionnaire consisting of 25 questions concerning demographics and behavior about cosmetics to teenager and their parents (total 136, female 100, male 36, teenager 74, parents 62) who visited dermatologic clinics and participant to campaign program. Results: The mean age of participant is 50.1 years in parents and 15.5 years in teenage. The ratio of the male to female is 1:2.8. In total, the most frequently used skin care product was skin lotion/toner followed by moisturizing cream, sunscreen and foundation( bb cream, tinted sunscreen, powder form, liquid formula, and paste form compact). In women, skin lotion and sunscreen were similar in frequency of use. In men, the most frequently used skin care product was skin lotion include after-save toner, followed by sunscreen. The cosmetics most commonly used by people are sunscreens. Conclusion: This study provides useful data on the knowledge and behavior regarding teenage and parents as user of cosmetics.
