Study of salt effect on the extractive distillation of 1- and 2-propanol-benzene systems

The salt effect of mono- di-, and trivalent electrolytes of varying cation sizes on the extractive distillation of 1- and 2-propanol-benzene mixtures of fixed composition has been examined. No correlation with the salt solubility or with the ion size was found. Minute quantities of T1/sup +/ and Pb/sup + +/ (0.008 M) were found capable of eliminating the 1-propanol-benzene azeotrope almost completely and the 2-propanol-benzene azeotrope partially.
