Dynamic response of deep groove ball bearing with point defects

2009
Point defects have significant effects on the life of rolling element bearings and the dynamic properties of whole machines. In order to analyze the response of rolling element bearings considering point defects, unilateral contact model, elastohydrodynamic lubrication theory and multibody method were applied to develop a dynamic model of deep groove ball bearing. The dynamic responses of inner race, outrace and cage were simulated. The impact phenomena between race and rolling elements were analyzed in the process of balls passing through the point defect. The results show that the peak frequencies in frequency domain are relevant to the characteristic frequency, which agrees with the rules of fault diagnosis for rolling element bearing. This rolling element bearing model can be applied to fault feature extraction and fault diagnosis.
