ANALYSIS ON TEST OF EFFECTIVE FLANGE WIDTH OF COMPOSITE FRAME BEAM

2007
In the analysis and design of steel-concrete composite beams, the concept of effective flange width is introduced to consider the impact of shear lag.Based on the test of composite frame, the effective flange width of composite frame beam is analyzed and the test results are compared with China Code GB50017-2003,Euro Code 4 and British Code BS 5950,which shows that the effective width values from measured strain are bigger than those of the codes while the widths obtained by reverse calculation from the measured deflection are smaller than those of the codes. Therefore the code-given widths turn to be somewhat unsafe to the calculation of deformation and rigidity of the beam.
