Restrictions on blood donations relevant to dermatology

With nearly 40% of the population eligible to donate, we may frequently treat potential blood donors. We reviewed the American Red Cross and World Health Organization’s restrictions on blood donation. Multiple drugs used, and diseases treated in dermatology, are associated with blood donation restrictions. Understanding these restrictions may help us better educate our patients.
