A low-crosstalk optical router using multi-layer coupled MR for ONoC

2017
Crosstalk noise is a potential issue for optical router used by optical network-on-chip (ONoC). The huge crosstalk directly degrades the performance in optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) at optical router level, and greatly limits the scalability at ONoC level. This paper proposes ILCOR, a low-crosstalk optical router using multi-layer coupled MR. The use of multi-layer coupled MR enables less waveguide crossings which are closely related to crosstalk. As results show, the average OSNR for ILCOR increases by 1.7× and 6.7× compared with Cygnus and Crossbar, respectively.
