Knowledge and Practice of Family Planning: A Study on Rickshaw Pullers, Lucknow

The study aims to understand the knowledge and practice of family planning among rickshaw pullers, aged between 18-49 years, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. 50 rickshaw pullers were randomly chosen and interviewed from 12 proposed metro locations of Lucknow. The study shows median age of marriage among rickshaw pullers family is male - 20 and female -17. The most commonly used family planning method is found to be ‘usage of condom and main source of family planning method is government facility while private facilities or pharmacies are not being approached by rickshaw pullers for contraceptives. 62% (31) of respondents reported knowledge of at least any of the contraceptive method. DMPA (2%) and ECP (4%) are the least known modern contraception methods. T.V is the most common source of information about Family planning.
