Hypertension and its Distribution in Prague

In Czechoslovakia, the diseases of the cardiovascular (CV) system are responsible for almost 50% of all deaths (561.1/100,000 in 1976), and are still the leading cause of mortality [1]. Between 1968 and 1976 mortality from CV disease (ICD, 1966: 390–458) exhibited a moderate upward trend from 504.8/ 100,000 to 561/100,000, which is an increase of about 11.3%.
