Treatment Options of Underactive Bladder
2021
Accepted guidelines are not yet available on the treatment of underactive bladder (UAB). Conservative management is a good option in patients with tolerable lower urinary tract symptoms and little risk of upper urinary tract damage. Clean intermittent catheterization is the gold standard for bladder emptying. Pharmacological agents (alpha-blockers, cholinesterase inhibitors, muscarinic agonists, prostaglandin E2, and acotiamide) are aimed to increase detrusor contractility and/ or decrease outlet resistance, but actually treatment options are limited.
