Anaesthetic considerations for thoracic surgery in a patient with osteogenesis imperfecta

2020
Summary Osteogenesis imperfecta is a rare genetic disorder affecting the connective tissue which can have significant implications on perioperative care. We present the case of a 36-year-old patient with osteogenesis imperfecta who required an elective wedge resection under Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic surgery. The patient had successful placement of a double lumen tube using an airway exchange catheter technique. We explore both airway specific and more general anaesthetic considerations for patients with osteogenesis imperfecta requiring thoracic surgery.
