The aim of this study was to evaluate the change in sexual function and vaginal symptoms using patient reported outcomes following prolapse surgery, in addition to the anatomical stage. This was a prospective observational study of women undergoing POP surgery. A total of 93 women participated in the study, with 83 (89%) returning the 6-month questionnaire and 80 (86%) returning the 12-month questionnaire. A total of 24 healthy women without prolapse were included as a control group. The mean vaginal and sexual symptom scores improved, with a significant decrease at 6 and 12 months postoperatively. Levator plication in addition to posterior vaginal repair is associated with an increase in postoperative dyspareunia rates and decreased sexual function. These data support the improvement in female sexual dysfunction after POP repair. Allen D. Permission to Publish Abstract Not Granted Editorial Comment: This is an interesting model for health care delivery. This study confirmed the value of an innovative approach to managing female sexual dysfunction in a rural area with workforce shortages and limited health services. Perhaps this model of care would be effective in other settings or applicable to other disease states. Allen D.
