Summary Vertigo appears as a fundamental symptom in a wide variety of illnesses that affect the inner ear. In this chapter, we shall focus on these illnesses from the basis of their physio-pathological classification that enables us to consider three main forms of peripheral vestibular diseases. The first, the isolated individual attack of vertigo without auditory participation of which vestibular neuritis represents the most typical form. The two remaining categories involve recurrent vertigo that can be divided into a spontaneous form, in which there is no specific triggering event, as in Meniere's disease, and positional vertigo, where certain postural changes lead to the appearance of the sensation of vertigo.
