Multi response optimisation of turning operation parameters on Al-Cu/TiB 2 in-situ metal matrix composites using desirability function

2012
This paper presents the optimisation of turning operation parameters on Al-Cu/TiB2 in-situ metal matrix composites (MMCs) with multiple performance characteristics using desirability function. The material used for the work is synthesised by casting route and followed by homogenisation and extrusion. The 3 3 factorial design is applied to design the experimental runs. Desirability function (DF) is used to optimise the cutting parameters namely cutting speed, feed and depth of cut on multiple performance characteristics such as cutting force components, surface roughness and material removal rate. The effect of parameters and optimum value of overall response are also identified using the response surface methodology (RSM).
