Atopic eczema (atopic dermatitis) is a chronic, pruritic, inflammatory skin disease that is often associated with a personal history of respiratory allergy and/or a family history of other atopic diseases (asthma, hay fever, urticaria). Atopic eczema is one of the most common skin diseases and in some parts of the world it affects nearly 10% of the population. The prevalence of atopic eczema has increased in recent years.
