In vitro antioxidant activities in different parts of Heritiera littoralis Dryand of mangrove plants in Guangxi

2014
【Objective】Antioxidant activities in different parts(leaves, branches and seeds) of Heritiera littoralis extracts were measured in order to provide references for exploring pharmaceutical value of Heritiera littoralis resources.【Method】L-ascorbic acid reagent was used as the positive control. Antioxidant activity was evaluated by testing the scavenging activity on DPPH· and hydroxyl free radical(·OH) and reducing power of the extracts in different parts. Besides, the total content of flavonoids and polyphenols in the extracts was analyzed. 【Result】The results showed that the Heritiera littoralis extracts of different parts had scavenging effect on DPPH· and OH free radicals. The scavenging effect was positively related to the concentration in a certain concentration range. The ability sequence of scavenging DPPH· and hydroxy radical was L-ascorbic acid branch extracts leaf extracts seed extracts. Reducing power sequence of extracts was L-ascorbic acidbranch extractsleaf extractsseed extracts. The average content of total flavonoids in extracts from different parts was between 3.65% and 5.56%(branch extracts). The average content of total phenols from different parts extracts was between 18.83% and 23.27%(branch extracts). 【Conclusion】The extracts in different parts of Heritiera littoralis have antioxidant activity, which provides references for development and utilization of Heritiera littoralis.
