DEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR A COAL/WATER SLURRY FIRED DIESEL ENGINE FOR COGENERATION APPLICATIONS

1987
This is the final report on a project whose overall objective is the long-range development of a coal/water slurry fuel-fired, slow- speed, two-stroke diesel engine for efficient and economical power generation for use in industrial cogeneration applications. Plans for the construction of a suitable engine testing facility in the United States are discussed and the formulation of a realistic five-year development program is presented. The discussion is organized under four broad categories: (1) development program requirements; (2) test facility configuration; (3) estimates of capital equipment and operating costs; and (4) options for facility ownership, operation, and funding.
