Application of Overfluxing Protection on Power Transformers

2008
In AC Power transmission system the transformers occupy a key position to facilitate bulk power transmission at the optimal cost and efficiency. The reliability for the power transmission network as a whole is dependent upon the behaviour of the transformers in service. Irrespective of the location, size and voltage class the transformers are generally subjected to various abnormal operations when the rated parameters are violated. In case of best designed and manufactured transformers operated under normal ambient conditions, the life that can be expected could be more than twice the normal life. However the system operation would always be punctuated with normal and sometimes abnormal variation of load, ambient temperature, through-system short circuit and abnormal voltage profiles and these affect the “life-style” of power transformers.
