Cooling of continuous-cast slabs of chromium-nickel-molybdenum steel at the MMK

2006
The Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine has developed and introduced a technology for the slow cooling of slabs of chromium-nickel-molybdenum steel. The slabs are cooled in evacuated compartments converted from soaking pits in the continuous-casting department. The technology ensures that the slabs are cooled at rates that preclude the formation of hot cracks and flakes in the steel.
