Compact Size Y-Shaped Broadband Antenna For E-Band Applications

This paper presents, a compact Y-shaped broadband antenna operating at E-band with a wide bandwidth of more than 16 GHz. The proposed design is a single-layered microstrip antenna that achieves a -10 dB bandwidth from 70.98-87.23 GHz with maximum gain of 8.77 dBi at the frequency of 84 GHz. Moreover, the antenna is further studied for MIMO array configuration of four elements. A good isolation between antenna elements is seen with a significant gain enhancement. The antenna and its MIMO configuration are designed using commercial software Higher Frequency Structural Simulator (HFSS v16) and their results are compared with CST to verify the the results. Owing to its compact size, wide bandwidth, high gain and MIMO functionality, the proposed antenna is a good candidate for short-range E-band communications.
