Suplementação antioxidante aguda e prevenção de dano lipídico e muscular de ciclistas em prova de longa duração: estudo experimental

2021
Introduction: The epidemiological and demographic transition, sedentary lifestyle, and encouragement to develop regular physical activities without proper guidance from professionals may be related to osteoarticular and muscle disorders. Objective: The aim of the present study was to analyze the effect of vitamin E (α-tocopherol) supplementation ), vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and omega 3 fatty acid in the oxidative damage of 20 male athletes in a long-term cycling event. Methods: A randomized clinical study of 20 athletes participating in a 200 km cycling event was carried out. Results: The supplemented group showed less lipid damage (reduction of TBARS p<0.005) by glutathione consumption (reduction of non-protein Sh groups, p<0.05) and less muscle damage (reduction of Creatine kinase mm p<0.05 ). Conclusion: Antioxidant supplementation proved to be effective in reducing oxidative stress, lipoperoxidation allowing a lower degree of muscle damage/fatigue determined by CK-mm activity.
