Clinical application of concentrated growth factor fibrin combined with bone repair materials in jaw defects

2020
Purpose To investigate the promoting effect of concentrated growth factor fibrin (CGF) on the repair of jaw bone defects. Patients and Methods We designed a clinical trial composed of patients with jaw defects. Forty patients were divided into the test group and the control group: CGF combine with Bio-Oss bone powder was used in the test group, whereas Bio-Oss bone powder alone was utilized in the control group. The concentration of VEGF and TGF-β in the RBC layer and CGF gel were detected. At different time points before and after the operation, the level of serum bone alkaline phosphatase (BAP), osteocalcin, bone mineral density in patients were measured. Regular examination and computed tomography scans were also performed in the follow-up period. Results The CGF available for clinical use was obtained by centrifugation. After preparation by centrifugation one day later, the concentration of VEGF and TGF-β in CGF gel was 2.57 folds and 3.4 folds than the concentration in the RBC layer, respectively. The BAP and osteocalcin levels increased in the 1 and 12 weeks after operation in both two groups; further, the BAP and osteocalcin levels in the test group were significantly higher than in the control group at 1 week and 12 weeks after operation (all P Conclusions Concentrated growth factor fibrin could promote the new bone format in the jaw defects, and benefit to the healing of bone tissue, is a promising bone repair material.
