Green synthesis approach for the reduction of graphene oxide by using glucose

2019
Modified Hummers method was used for synthesizing Graphene Oxide (GO) and the reduction of GO to reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was done by a green synthesis approach using glucose as a reducing reagent. The GO and rGO were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy, Fourier transforms infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, UV-Visible spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Structural analysis was carried out by XRD showing a decrement in the interlayer spacing on reduction from GO to rGO.FTIR analysis shows all the signature peaks of functional groups present in GO and rGO. UV-Vis absorption spectra show a red shift and energy band gap decreases after the reduction of GO. A slight shift in the Raman spectra was observed and a higher value of ID/IG ratio in rGO than GO signifies that rGO has a huge amount of defects. TGA analysis reveals that the rGO shows higher stability than GO.
