Enhanced Recovery After Gastrectomy

2020
In 2014, the first comprehensive guidelines for perioperative care for gastrectomy were published in the British Journal of Surgery. An international working group within the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS®) Society assembled an evidence-based comprehensive framework for optimal perioperative care for patients undergoing gastrectomy. Data were retrieved from standard databases and personal archives. Evidence and recommendations were classified according to the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system. The present chapter is a condensed and updated version of this previous publication with evidence-based advice on optimal perioperative care for the patient undergoing gastrectomy and aims to give the reader a comprehensive and succinct overview of present-day guidelines. The available evidence is summarized and recommendations given for 20 items, 8 of which contain procedure-specific evidence and 12 more general items.
