Successful Management of Dystocia Coupled with Cervicovaginal Prolapse in a Crossbred Cow

A three-year-old crossbred cow in first parity was brought to the Referral Veterinary Polyclinic, Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Uttar Pradesh, India, with the history of full-term gestation, unproductive straining and first degree cervicovaginal prolapse (CVP) for past 48 h. Per vaginal examination revealed patent vagina, with only three finger cervical dilation whereas per rectal examination revealed that foetal parts were palpable. The prolapsed mass was replaced after washing with antiseptic solution. The case was treated with cloprostenol sodium 250 µg, dexamethasone 40 mg and valethamate bromide 80 mg. A female live calf was relieved as per the standard obstetrical procedures.
