EFFECT OF SOIL REINFORCEMENT ON SOIL STRENGTH CHARACTERISTICS OF SOIL

2020
Shear strength is one of the important parameters which plays significant role in analysis of slope stability. A soil, weak in shear strength, cannot be used in structure involving slope stability. With the introduction of concept of soil reinforcement, the inclusion of reinforcement in soil improves its shear strength. In this study, several tests were conducted in the direct shear test apparatus on reinforced soil and strength characteristics were analysed. For the reinforcing the soil sample, reinforcement used were divided into two categories, low-density and high-density reinforcement. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of reinforcement on the strength behaviour of soil sample i.e. Yamuna sand. The strength characteristics of the soil sample were studied for different type of reinforcement and arrangement of reinforcement. The results demonstrated that inclusion of reinforcement results in improvement of cohesion and angle of friction parameters resulting in improvement strength of cohesionless soil.
