Dynamic Stability Analyses of the Liquid-Filled Cylindrical Shells with Lumped Masses Under a Follower Force

2019
The dynamic stability characteristics of liquid-filled cylindrical shells with lumped masses under a thrust are examined. The present fluid–structure interaction system considers the coupling effect between the elastic deformation of the structure and the hydrodynamic pressure of the fluid. The fluid is assumed to be incompressible and has no free surface effect. The thrust is modeled as a follower force. For the present numerical analysis, the finite element method is adopted. In numerical results, the vibration and dynamic stability characteristics for various filling ratios of the fluid as well as different lengths and thicknesses of the structure under a follower force are analyzed in detail. Furthermore, the effect of lumped masses on the liquid-filled cylindrical shells on the dynamic stability is investigated.
