The effect of natural bentonite and temperature on gasification of oil palm shell

2018
Biomass is one of potential sources of alternative fuels for fossil fuels substitution. One of the abundant biomass wastes in Indonesia is oil palm waste. Research on utilization of abundant oil palm shell for valuable bioenergy products is still not explored completely. Catalytic gasification is one method for production of bioenergy products, i.e. high quality of syngas from solid biomass. In this study, the effect of natural bentonite and temperature on gasification of oil palm shell was studied. Natural bentonite particle obtained from East Java was used as catalyst to improve the hydrogen and methane yield. The use of gaseous products of biomass and their upgradation using bentonite is a better and low cost alternative. The results show that utilized of bentonite 50% wt increased the product of syngas and reduced the product of tar and char. The effect of bentonite on syngas production was more significant when the gasification was carried out in higher temperature. The result indicated that syngas p...
