Chronic Lead Exposure: a Cause for Brain Degeneration and Calcifications: a Case Report

2021
Lead poisoning is one of the most common diseases of toxic environmental origin because of its widespread use in batteries, paints, solder, stained glass, and toys. In the central nervous system, lead toxicity causes cerebral and cerebellar white matter degeneration manifesting as white matter abnormalities and intracranial calcifications on neuroimaging. Therefore, chronic lead exposure should be considered a differential for unexplained white matter disease and intracranial calcifications in adults. Here, we present imaging findings of chronic lead toxicity in a patient with a history of long-term occupational lead exposure.
