Management of female genital tuberculosis· re-appraised

WHO Statistics Indicate that tuberculosis continues to rank in the top position of communicable diseases. It is estimated that 5-13 percent of females presenting themselves in infertility clinics in India have genital tuberculosis. Genital tuberculosis frequently presents without symptoms and is often detected during diagnostic work-up in women attendirigilftef,ti:lity clinics. The-.typical presentation of female genital TB includes Infertility, pelvic pain, menstrual disturbance or poor general hea1th. Culture is the gold standard for diagnosis of genital TB. Rapid culture techniques like BACTEC can be used to save time in diagnosis. Once the disease is picked up it $hould be treated aggressively with DOTS. IVF-ET.has been suggested to be the best line of treatment for this form of infertility.
