Investigation on part of people's sleep condition in Sichuan seismic disastrous area

Objective:To investigate sleep disorders of victims in Sichuan seismic disastrous area, 81 people in Deyang and Mianzhu were examined. Methods: The field investigation method and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) used to assess sleep quality in a group of 45 earthquake victims, compared to those of a control group of 36 people who didn't affected by the earthquake in Deyang. Results: PSQI average score in victim group (7.40±1.08) was higher than that in control group(5.58±0.84) (P0.05). All the victims have suffered from insomnia within 3 days after the earthquake occurrence, or the symptom of insomnia was aggravated in people who had have before. 16 of victims(35.56%)almost have no sleep the whole night, 23 of victims (51.11%) have suffered from continues insomnia within one month after the earthquake occurrence. Conclusion: The sleep qualities of people have been affected at a certain degree by the earthquake. It is mainly the result of emergency response. People with sleep disorder before the earthquake occurance have the tendency to higher incidence of sleep disorders.
