Blast responses of steel stiffened panels subjected to plane shock waves

2021
Abstract Experimental and numerical studies have been performed to investigate the blast responses of a stiffened panel under plane shock waves from air blast loading. The experiments were conducted in a novel explosion-proof tank testing system. Two trial tests were first conducted to validate the accuracy of the pressure sensors. After validation, a real blast test was performed to investigate the dynamic response of the stiffened panel under plane shock waves. The deformation and failure mode of the panel plating were obtained from the test. Numerical simulations were carried out with the mathematical method and good agreement is obtained between the numerical and the experimental results. The results show the antiknock performance of the structure is different in different directions under the action of the stiffener. In addition, the effect of peak pressure magnitude and shock wave type on the response of the stiffened panel is also discussed.
