Cancerul şi obezitatea - implicaţii etiopatogenice, clinico-evolutive şi terapeutice

2015
Obesity constitutes a major impact factor involved in the development of digestive and genital cancers with mechanisms of action yet not fully understood. In addition, obesity makes diagnosing cancers in these patients more difficult and is associated with increased risk of post-operative complications that prolong recovery, thus with impact on costs hospitalization and quality of life. Fighting obesity either through healthy living and special programmes conducted by both dieticians and endocrinologists, either through bariatric surgery may lead to a decreased incidence of these certain neoplasms in this risk group. Furthermore, creating special screening programmes for obese patients may lead to early diagnosis of neoplasia, leading to decreased morbidity and mortality through cancer in this type of patients.
