Feasibility study on dual cable suspension bridges

1997
A new type of suspension bridge with improved wind resistance stability is proposed in which the global torsional rigidity of the superstructure is increased by using the effect of the restoring cable force of the dual cable system. In this paper, the basic parameters are derived for a simple span suspension bridge having a stiffening box girder of 1000 3000 m center span length by using three-dimensional finite displacement analysis, and the feasibility of the dual cable suspension bridge is examined in comparison with standard suspension bridge.
