Pneumatosis intestinalis as an incidental finding in a patient with COVID-19 infection.

2021
We address the case of a 42-year-old female follow-up patient with epidermoid carcinoma of the tongue, who presented to the Emergency Department due to non-specific fever. In the current context of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, she was diagnosed with severe pulmonary involvement via CT scan and a small amount of pneumoperitoneum was observed. After extending the examination to the abdominal region, pneumatosis intestinalis with affectation of the transverse and ascending colon was detected and was treated conservatively due to the absence of gastrointestinal symptoms.
