A-dependence of pair production of hadrons with large P/sub T/

The A dependence of the production of pairs of charged hadrons has been measured. When the A dependence of the invariant cross section is approximated by a function A2, the exponent ..cap alpha../sub 2/ does not exceed unity anywhere in the P/sub T/ range from 0.46 to 2.27 GeV/c. The exponent ..cap alpha../sub 2/ is found to depend on the nature of the particles.
