Echographic findings in posterior scleritis

2003
: In the submitted paper the authors present an account on the importance of ultrasonographic examination by the method of standardized echography for early and correct establishment of the diagnosis scleritis posterior. They mention the echographic image of posterior scleritis and the specific acoustic criteria which are important from the aspect of the differential diagnosis. They analyze differences of the echographic image in posterior scleritis, melanoma of the choroid, metastatic carcinoma of the choroid and haemangioma of the choroid. When knowing the specific acoustic criteria the success rate of diagnosing posterior scleritis is high. The diagnosis is important for provision of adequate treatment and prevention of ophthalmological complications. Standardized echography is a non-invasive examination method suitable not only for assessment of the diagnosis of posterior scleritis but also for check-up examinations and follow up of the effectiveness of therapy.
