Transplantation of Myelin-Forming Cells

2009
Numerous central nervous system disorders are characterised by abnormal myelin formation or myelin loss. It is now well established that myelination can be achieved by transplantation of myelinogenic cells, and therefore this approach has appealed as a potential clinical treatment for diseases in which endogenous myelination/remyelination (a process of re-investing demyelinated axons with new myelin sheaths) fails.
