Histological Findings in Renal Parenchyma After Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy

The acute and chronic (6-week) effects of shock waves generated by three different Dornier HM3 lithotripters were examined in pigs. The pathologic effects were not marked in animals treated with the original HM3 (15.6 cm ellipsoid, 80 nf generator), when compared to the HM3 lithotripters equipped with the low-pressure (40 nf) generator and the 17 cm ellipsoid.
