Management of Recurrence of Chronic Subdural Hematoma
2021
Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is commonly encountered in the elderly patients. Burr hole drainage is the gold surgical technique for treatment. The prognosis is usually favorable. However, the recurrence rate is still high, accounting for 5–33% of cases. Therefore, identifying risk factors for CSDH recurrence is essential. The treatment modalities for recurrent CSDH are still debatable. The appropriate surgical technique must be selected depending on the patient background, clinical characteristics, and radiological records. In this chapter, we review the different risk factors associated with CSDH recurrence, before detailing the available therapeutic options and preventive measures.
