Clinical Importance of Scheduled Deworming in Buffalo calves

The present study was conducted under field condition of Front Line Demonstration (FLD) program for the period 20082015, where mortality ranged from 75–85 percent in buffalo calves from birth to one year age. The training program was organised for 2250 farmers and dairy calves management and adoption of deworming with standard proven dewormers. In the FLD program, 1289 demonstration on deworming with were given to 808 livestock owners. The farmers were given demonstration at their door step on adoption of deworming in comparison to their age old practice of drenching butter milk with salt to minimize worm load. Protective deworming with Oxyclozanide and Levamisole suspension, Fenbendazole and Praziquantel suspension/tablets at the age of 07–10 days, 30–35 days, 80–85 days and 200–210 days post birth caused effective gain 22.50–27.30 percent in body weight and reduction in mortality 79–85 percent in protected calves. The role of scheduled deworming of buffalo calves is clearly showed it positive impact.
