A Finite Element Method for the Prediction of Thermal, Metallurgical, and Mechanical Behavior of Rebars in the TempCore Process

2016
The production of steel reinforcing bars for civil engineering is investigated by means of finite element model-based simulation. The aim of this study is to predict the internal structures of steel bars after treatment through the TempCore process by using a finite element method. Moreover, a model for the prediction of final mechanical properties of the bars produced by means of this process has been constructed and validated with real industrial data. Highlights FEM was used to simulate the thermal evolution of bars in the TempCore cooling stand. A predictive model of bar final macrostructure was constructed and validated. A predictive model of bar final mechanical properties was constructed and validated. An average percent error for prediction of tensile strength less of 1.54% was got. An average percent error for prediction of yield strength less of 2.23% was got.
