2006
AbstractAcute idiopathic scrotal edema in children Acute idiopathic scrotal edema is an acute, painless scrotal swelling, often accompanied byscrotal erythema. Acute idiopathic scrotaledema is commonly observed in prepuberalboys. Its etiology is still unknown. The patients are in good health and bloodand urine analysis is negative. Scrotal ultra-sonography reveals typical thickening of thescrotal skin and normal bloodflow to the testes. Before the diagnosis of acute „idiopathic”scrotal edema may be made, other urologicaland surgical causes of an acute scrotal swellinghave to be excluded first.Acute idiopathic scrotal edema does notrequire treatment since clinical features resolvespontaneously in 12-72 hours. Recurrences arerare. LITERATUUR1. K LIN B, L OTAN G, E FRATI Y, Z LOTKEVICH L, S TRAUSS S.Acute idiopathic scrotal edema in children – revisited. JPediatr Surg 2002; 37 : 1200-1202.2.
